BigHit has addressed the circulating copyright rumors targeting the BTS hit of the year, “Butter.”
Netizens had been commenting that “Butter” has copyright issues since it contains the same melody as “You Got Me Down” by Luca Debonaire.
Earlier Luca also took to social media stating he had purchased the topline from Sebastian Garcia in 2019, who surprisingly is also the accredited “Butter” composer.
In response to all the rumors, BigHit said that “Butter” has no copyright issues. It underwent the whole pre-release screening and process with the artists to make sure no right is compromised.
The statement read:
“It has been confirmed that there are no copyright issues regarding “Butter.” It is a song that was finalized and released after undergoing a process of confirming with all songwriters that there are no issues with the song, and there are also no issues currently regarding the song’s rights.
However, we are aware of the claim that there is an issue regarding copyrights, but even if that is the case, the musical rights still belong to “Butter.”
On the other hand, “Butter” has continued its success journey. Since its release, it has amassed more than 480,000,000 views. “
